During this On Point with Tom Ashbrook show titled The Science of Willpower, Tom discusses the newly published book Willpower:Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength. (Podcast version) Such an interesting discussion of human behavior, but I was struck by how much anecdotal information was offered as scientific evidence. Normally, I glean what I can and move on, but I was a bit concerned by a number of the generalizations made by the authors that led to their conclusions. The authors discussed smoking, alcohol, eating disorders, self control, and depleting will power. I normally skip over the readers comments, but these offered a broad range of perspectives…which is probably what I had hoped for in the interview.
